How high is the chance of death once one is diagnosed with H1N1?

I know a lot of people will probably get angry about this question because they are annoyed with all of the H1N1 information, and that’s how I was too originally. But now a couple of family members and friends have been diagnosed with it and I’m really beginning to become worried. If one is diagnosed with H1N1, how high are the chances of death? When will healthy people (those not diagnosed with H1N1) be able to be around them again?
Please answer with as much correct information as possible, I’m really frightened. Thanks in advance.

  1. I don’t think it is very high. In my grade there have been about 5 people with the swine flu, and they were all back in school, after about a week. But then an upper classman got it, and then he got pnemonia (spelling?) and he wasn’t doing too good, but now he is recovering…

  2. Its okay to be worried, I would be worried too if I was in your situation.

It’s a very long and complicated process to explain this.

But if any of your family with the virus has chronic heart or lung disease, diabetes, are under 5 years of age. liver or kidney diseases.

If you family has any of the above, the chances of dying are quite higher than if they dont.

  3. As an example: I am 65 with really severe asthma. I got H1N1 with pneumonia. I was pretty sick, went to the Dr. to get Azithromyacin prescription, stayed home, took care of myself and am well. I figure that at my age, on 24/7 oxygen for my asthma, getting pneumonia and all that means that if you get a standard case of this, take care of yourself, and if you don’t rush trying to get well, your chances of death are really tiny.

  4. The swine flu germ goes into the air way and down into the lung, a few things happen all at once, the bodies macrophage goes on alert and attacks the germ to dispose of it, it’s the garbage can of the body but, something happens here, the swine flu is very strong and has a hard outer shell the macrophage cannot get through but, the swine flu gets into the macrophage and turns it into a ally through a change in the dna structure it makes, then they both Start attacking the bodies cells in the lung, double this every few seconds, the lungs are in danger now, the lung cells are dying and leaking fluid and blood.
This is all happening withing ten hours your coughing blood and you’d better see a doctor, your time is limited. This gets worse, your now running a fever and sweating badly, you can’t breathe you have a pneumonia like disease and are dying, within twenty four hours if you don’t get help, you’ll die.

Does explain it and, some people would rather take a chance with swine flu then get vaccine, what would you do. ?

  5. if you are not diagnosed the chance of dieing from h1n1 is 1 in 1000 people.

  6. There is no way of knowing the exact chance because the figures you see out there are per millions and you are talking about a few people. Everyone handles the h1n1 differently. Yes, if you have any type of underlying health problems and you are between the ages of 2-49 or pregnant you are at a greater risk of complications, not necessarily death just more complications.
I know it is freightening I have researched and researched this due to fears. According to the research usually alloting one week from the end of h1n1 is the best time not to be contagious. If you have to be around someone that has h1n1 then you should try to wear a mask, after contact be sure to wash your hands for atleast 20 seconds and if using sanitizer make sure it has atleast 60% alcohol in it. Also remember it is received through the eyes, mouth and throat. So do your best to keep your hands away from your face. And wipe down any hard surfaces used by people with a clorox disinfectant. It is best to stay atleast 6 feet away from a person with h1n1.
A few other ways to help your immune system is to stay away from sugars. Sugars actually slow your immune system due to they just crowd around bacteria holding it. Alocohol consumption also increases your chances due to it interrupts the inside of your nose. Some home remedies to help keep your self better is that once a day blow your nose and then take qtips and dip them in salt water and clean your nost. This helps to keep the bacteria from inserting into your airways. Next gargal atleast twice a day with salt water if you do not want salt water then use listerine. This does the same with bacteria. It also helps to kill bacteria if you drink warm fluids such as coffee, tee or hot cocoa. This does the same as the salt water and nose swabs just does it inside your system.
Do not let the media get you to scared. It is a serious thing but there are ways to help prevent this by keeping your hands away from your face. Wash your hands alot and eating healthy items that build your immune system strong. The main reason h1n1 is so much worse is because our bodies have not had it to build antibodies to it. Even though alot of people have gotten ill you need to realize that millions have been diagnosed with h1n1 and most are from 3-7 days getting over it with mild cases. The media is only keeping up with the most serious killing people. I hope this helps!!

  7. More people have already died from normal flu vs. H1n1. The whole overhype of it is making me sick.

You know you don’t even get throw up from h1n1. All you get is a flipping headache, a cough, and cold shivers.

    All a big joke.

  8. The CDC’s own web site readily admits that since August 30, 2009 they are no longer testing for H1N1. They don’t even recommend it any more. They are substituting a clinical definition for blood testing that will positively confirm that the “suspected” cases of H1N1 influenza are actually H1N1 influenza.

    sneaky bastards.

They’ve even coined what appears to be a whole new term: “ILI,” which stands for “influenza-like illness.”
